Terms of use (draft)
Who is behind this. Casewright is built and maintained by an individual developer, not a company. There is no legal entity, no support organisation, and no service-level commitment. The software is provided as-is, you run it on infrastructure you control, and if the author stops working on it you keep the version you installed. Payments, if any, are handled by a third-party merchant of record — the author does not process or store card details.
Casewright is self-hosted software you install and operate on infrastructure you control. It is licensed by a single payment: the licence is perpetual for the version you install, and you receive new releases for as long as the product is maintained. This licence grants use inside the organisation named on your order; it does not transfer title to the software.
What you are buying. One payment, one permanent licence to run this software inside your own organisation, on machines you control, with no limit on users or cases and nothing that expires. There is no renewal and no subscription. Nothing switches itself off, ever — a licence that could stop working would make “perpetual” a lie.
What you may not do with it. The licence is to use the software, not to redistribute it. Passing the archive, the built image, or your licence key to anyone outside your organisation is not permitted. Your licence names the organisation it was issued to, and that name travels with any copy made from it.
Updates, honestly. New versions are free for as long as this product is maintained, and it is maintained by one person. That means updates continue while the work continues, and it would be dishonest to promise a schedule or a horizon. If maintenance ever stops, what you already installed keeps running exactly as it does today — on your server, with your data, with no dependency on anything of ours staying alive. Please buy on the strength of what the product does now, not on what it might become.
The product is a case desk for preparing and freezing defensible freight-claim and invoice-dispute evidence. It does not move freight, negotiate, file claims, or guarantee recovery, and it does not determine liability. You remain responsible for your filings.
These terms apply to the version of the software you installed. A later release may carry revised terms; the copy you are already running is governed by the ones it shipped with.
